Our Display, “The Barber Collection – 35 Years Later” (Badge Required) is provided by

the members of Fenton Finders of Greater Kansas City.  This display will feature many pieces

that were produced by Fenton Art Glass Company during 1975 through 1976 with Robert Barber

as the “glass-artist in residence.”  Studio glass craftsman, Robert Barber wasn’t at Fenton very

long but he certainly left his mark.

Friday, September 16

The morning seminar (Badge Required) will be “Friday Morning with Dave & Delmer”.  Dave Fetty and Delmer Stowasser will talk about the making of the glass that we call the Robert Barber Collection.  Come to the seminar to hear them as they walk down memory lane!

The luncheon (Badge Required) speaker is Kathleen Sponsler who will be teaching us about “Glass Enhancement.”  For the "would be" glass decorator, she will outline the career opportunities and challenges faced being an artist and illustrator.  She was a Fenton artist for two years then she continued designing and painting art glass in her studio for the last sixteen years.  Kathleen is the owner of Honeysuckle Hollow Art Antiques & Collectibles.

Later Friday afternoon, there will be a review of the Individual Display Tables.

Friday evening is the Seminar (Badge Required) on our Fenton Art Glass Display

“The Barber Collection – 35 Years Later” followed by Viewing of the Auction Glass.  An auction of 253 good quality Fenton glass items will be offered.   An auction list & pictures will be on our website fentonfinderskc.net and on the website of Jim Wroda, of Jim Wroda Auction Services http://www.auctionzip.com/OH-Auctioneers/39043.html

Saturday, September 17

Morning will be viewing of the Auction Glass from 8:00 am to 9:00 am with the Auction at 9:00 am.

No Badge Required.   The Public is welcome to attend the Auction.

After the auction, all glass displays will be taken down.

Saturday evening at 6:00 pm is the Banquet (Badge Required).  Banquet entertainment this year will be somewhat different than in the past.  We will have a film of Dave Fetty making some of our whimsey pieces at Fenton’s Collectibles Hot Glass Studio in Republic, Missouri.

Door Prize Drawings will be held for many pieces of high quality Fenton Art Glass.  (Winning will be limited to one per household.)  After the Banquet is the Whimsey Auction.

Glass for Sale in your Room

You are encouraged to sell Fenton Glass from your room.  We plan lots of time for “shopping the rooms.”  The hotel has tables available for $22.00 each for length of stay.  Please bring your own table covers and/or skirting unless you would prefer the hotel to furnish white tablecloths.  The tables are 30 inches wide by 72 inches long.

Individuals Displays

You are encouraged to set up a display table.  Full table displays are requested with identification required as education is one of the keys to enjoying our glass passion.  Choose your own theme.  Please indicate on your registration form if we should reserve a display table for you as our available space permits only 19 display tables.  Tables are 30 inches wide by 72 inches long.  You may bring your own table covers and skirting or the hotel will provide them.  Set up will be Friday at 7:00 am to 9:00 am in main Display room.  For security purposes, plan to turn in a list of your display glass before your display is set up.

We were hoping to be able to announce Special GALA Souvenirs 2011 at this time.  Instead, we will make an announcement on our website when we have that information.  (Until then, keep your fingers crossed.)  We will let you know just as soon as we can.

!!!  Important Hotel Information  !!!

If you need to cancel your hotel room reservation, please call our Gala Committee member who coordinates with the Hotel, Joy Livengood at (913) 782-9699 or alohajoy@sbcglobal.net so that we won’t lose a Gala Rate blocked room.  Rooms on the Second Floor (to sell glass) are First Come, First Serve.  You still call the hotel for your room reservation first.  The Hotel has blocked rooms for us on the 2nd Floor and the 4th Floor.  Also, let Joy know if you would prefer a Smoking Room (3rd Floor).  She will do her best to accommodate you.  We cannot guarantee the room of your choice!

Embassy Suites – This is such a great hotel for the Gala and it has been remodeled since last year!  There is a free shuttle to and from the airport.  At the airport, just pick up the Embassy Suites phone (in the Baggage Pickup area) to call the shuttle.  Parking is free!  All rooms are two room suites with a king size bed or two double beds and the sofa folds out for another bed.  There is a Cooked-to-Order Breakfast with Buffet from 6:30 am to 9:30 am weekdays & 7:00 am to 10:30 am weekends.  And to top it off, a free Cocktail party every evening from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
